Blepharoplasty

Some people, at an advanced age, may notice that their eyelids have started to become flaccid and droopy. This is due to the weakening of the muscles that support them, thus filling the upper and lower parts of their eyelids with fat.

A blepharoplasty is a surgery that looks to correct saggy eyelids by removing excess tissue on your upper or lower eyelids.

This procedure is often a complementary part of other procedures, such as a brow lift or a facelift.

What to expect of this procedure:

It’s important to note that you should let your doctor know your expectations for this procedure are so he/she can work on realistic objectives with you. Your doctor can also ask for references about your medical background to see if you’re a candidate for this operation.

Your doctor could conduct a physical and vision examination to see what the steps that he/she could take are.

Your doctor could ask you to stop taking certain medications that could increase bleeding and to quit smoking several weeks before and after your surgery. It is advised to ask someone to take you back home after getting outpatient surgery.

The surgeon removes or redistributes the excess skin, fat, and muscle by cutting the fold of the eyelid or the eye’s crease. After doing so, the doctor closes the cut.

Blepharoplasty: Recovery

This is an outpatient procedure, but you may have to stay in a recovery room for a while to be monitored in case of any complications.

After the operation, some of these things could take place, such as:

-Watery eyes

-Pain

-Discomfort

-Swelling, bruising, or redness

-High sensitivity towards the light.

-Numbness.

Bruising, swelling, and redness could decrease within 10-14 days of having the operation. Scars, on the other hand, could take months to fade completely.

Your doctor might ask you to avoid excessive physical action, smoking, rubbing your eyes; you should also keep good hygiene and clean your eyelids to avoid infection.

Your doctor could also ask for pictures of blepharoplasty before and after the archive.
